Grant Opportunities

February 2, 2012

Posted: Feb 2 2012

"...just released Request for Proposals (RFP). The New York City Department of Health (DOHMH) is seeking out organizations to support NYC Green Cart vendors in 2012 and beyond.  From March- December, 2012, selected organizations will participate in trainings, host workshops on how to become a vendor and learn how best to provide support for these entrepreneurs.  Each of the 10 chosen organizations will receive $7500 to support staff time committed to this project. The RFP can be found here: http://www.nyc.gov/html/fund/downloads/pdf/green_carts_rfp.pdf

Green Carts are mobile food carts that offer fresh produce in certain New York City areas- areas with limited access to fresh fruits and vegetables.  In 2008, Mayor Bloomberg signed off on Local Law 9, which established 1,000 permits for Green Carts.  Funding for this RFP is made possible through the generous funding of the Laurie M. Tisch Illumination Fund.  For more information on Green Carts, visit www.nyc.gov/greencarts. Please let me know if you have any questions. "

USDA’s Community Food Projects Competitive Grants Program recently released a Request for Applications (RFA).  This program supports projects that meet the food needs of low-income inpiduals, that increase community self-reliance for food needs, and that promote comprehensive responses to local food, farm, and nutrition issues.  USDA anticipates awarding approximately $5,000,000 in Fiscal Year (FY) 2012 in three different grant categories: (1) Community Food Projects, (2) Planning Projects, and (3) Training and Capacity Building Projects.

The deadline for applying is November 17th, 2011, so now is a great time to begin the application process!
